Work with UNION

by Mark Rowe

The builders’ merchant’s MKM Building Supplies and UNION, part of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, a division of ASSA ABLOY, have been working together. MKM, which recently opened its 41st branch as part of its wider expansion plans, has updated its hardware and security products. MKM has been working with ASSA ABLOY and mainly the UNION brand to create an offering inline with customer demand, as well as lock and hardware trends.

UNION recently updated its product offering for merchants led by its ‘We Are UNION’ campaign and mortice range upgrades. Introducing UNION’s StrongBOLT range, MKM will now also stock UNION’s new panic exit devices – Eximo and its Retro3 door closers, which are an ideal retrofit solution. The builders’ merchant group will also offer a streamlined Yale product portfolio.

Rachel Waugh, from MKM Building Supplies said: “MKM has grown significantly and had phenomenal success over recent years, as a result we have been carefully scrutinising all product ranges to see where further improvements can be made and make the success replicable across all areas of the business.

“Door sales have always been a profitable area for us, but by comparison hardware sales have under-performed. To understand this better we wanted to work with a supplier who could advise and create a recommended listing for growing this area. In addition to delivering products that have the support of a brand names such as UNION and Yale, they were also able to develop a tailored range that would help support our sales objectives.”

David Wigglesworth, Managing Director of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, added: “As a manufacturer we feel it is important to constantly update our product offering, whether that be through higher testing standards, creating more variants or improved point of sale displays, but that is only part of our role. It is equally important that we support our stockists’ growth plans, and one of the ways we can do this is by developing tailored ranges and advising on product portfolios, as we have done with MKM.

“MKM is on a real growth path at the moment and we are very pleased to be working alongside and supporting such a successful business. MKM has a great product offering and loyal customer base, making them a crucial partner for us, who we will continue to work with to help realise both MKM’s and ASSA ABLOY’s ambitions.”
