Rapiscan certified

by Mark Rowe

Rapiscan Systems, Inc., a supplier of security inspection systems, announced that its 620DV AT (Dual View) baggage X-Ray scanner has been certified by the Service Technique de l’Aviation Civile (STAC) for Liquid Explosive Detection Systems (LEDS). The 620DV AT is already approved for use by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and other regulatory bodies.

The 620DV AT is a STAC and ECAC Standard 2 compliant system. Using threat detection software, the system classifies liquids in scanned carry-ons as potential threats or benign, freeing passengers from having to remove liquids from luggage at security checkpoints. By providing two perpendicular views, Rapiscan claims its 620DV AT delivers a more complete perspective of scanned items, allowing airport screeners to better identify potential threats, including liquid explosive and other improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The French civil aviation authority, Service Technique de l’Aviation Civile, is attached to the Air Transport Directorate of the French Ministry in charge of transport, and provides assistance to the Ministry of Defense.

“Having been proven at aviation checkpoints around the globe, the STAC certification is yet another achievement for the 620DV AT and goes further to demonstrate the need for an affordable, high-performance security solution that not only meets the regulatory requirements of today but also of the future” said Frank Baldwin, Managing Director at Rapiscan Systems UK. “By detecting both conventional explosive threats and, more importantly, being able to differentiate between threatening and benign liquids, this is an ideal solution for airports across France and Europe looking for a complete and cost effective screening solution.”
