Gate safety course

by Mark Rowe

Some 400 powered gate installers and specialists have now completed the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) powered gate safety diploma training course.

The DHF Powered Gate Group represents manufacturers, suppliers, installers and maintainers of powered automatic gates and gate automation equipment. The two-day training course is aimed at those involved in the safety of automatically controlled powered gates including installers, inspectors and those responsible for gate maintenance.

The trade body says that the scheme ensures that DHF Powered Gate Group member companies’ personnel are trained to provide and install fully compliant gates. Trainees cover all aspects of gate safety from initial risk assessment to force testing – to obtain a DHF gate safety diploma. Topics covered include law and regulations, use of standards, risk assessment, testing and inspection, documentation, repair and maintenance.

It is compulsory for all DHF Powered Gate Group members to put personnel through the scheme. It allows member companies to use the DHF Safety Assured mark which is their customer assurance that specifiers and purchasers have made a responsible and safe choice when choosing and maintaining powered gates. The diploma course is led by Nick Perkins, DHF training officer. He said: “Raising standards of automated gate safety in the industry continues to be the driving force of the federation. Thorough and comprehensive training for all those responsible for powered gate safety is a key element in our drive to raise standards.”

The diploma scheme is open to all members and also to non-member individuals who are responsible for installation, assessment and inspection of powered gates. The next training courses run on November 4 and 5 in Scunthorpe; visit http://www.dhfonline.org.uk/powered-gate-safety-training-courses.aspx
