Business award

The Bradbury Group, the Scunthorpe-based /manufacturer of steel doors and security grilles, has won in the European Business Awards 2015-2016.

The company was nominated in the entrepreneur category, after coming to the attention of awards sponsor, accountancy firm Baker Tilly, after successes in the 2015 Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

The Bradbury Group reports that it has grown rapidly over recent years and now employs nearly 200 people. The business has developed a number of niche markets. Managing Director Tim Strawson says: ‘We use our core strengths in engineering and manufacturing technology to make products better and more quickly than competitors. I am delighted that our success has been recognised in the wider context of Europe.’ The company specialises in security doors, window grilles and cages that are third party tested and certified. Markets include utilities, datacentres, social housing, transport, government and defence.

In the last five years, Group turnover has quadrupled to nearly £18m and profits re-invested in expanding the Scunthorpe factory. Last year saw the launch of the Bradbury Academy (working with North Lindsey College) which provides workplace based and classroom training for apprentice engineers. Owner Tim Strawson has also been behind the foundation of Youth Engineering – a charity based in Scunthorpe providing an opportunity to get on the employment ladder for long term unemployed young people.

In the next stage of the European Business Awards, Bradbury must submit a video, subject to a public vote. This will be launched on the Bradbury website at the end of November (www.bradburyuk.com).
