VMS update

by Mark Rowe

FLIR is releasing an update to its video management software (VMS) with new features for its Latitude, Horizon and Meridian products. The new version includes more integration with FLIR’s thermal security cameras. A license is now provided to allow connection of FLIR recorders to Latitude, Horizon and Meridian.

Thermal cameras have their own set of setup parameters that differ from visible-camera Picture Settings. The Camera Settings page of the Admin Center now has a separate Thermal Settings tab. And FLIR’s PT series dual-sensor cameras are now fully integrated into the United VMS product range. The company’s thermal cameras can detect and flag events based on thermal data. These events have been added to the United VMS event categories.

Large customers with complex or high-availability requirements can use new back-up and fail-over features. The exported MP4 files are now accompanied by a running on-screen display, showing a time stamp for the displayed video.

While viewing scenes in live and playback modes, a user can use the mouse wheel to digitally zoom into the scene.

Decoding high-resolution content can lead to some jittering of images as key frames are received. A new mechanism has been introduced to buffer incoming streams and then use the embedded RSTP time information as a time stamp for displaying the content. This mode is now the default.

Among changes for edge devices, a user can now activate a pan and tilt camera’s ‘scanlist’ via Latitude by starting and stopping preset one (in Control Center or Admin Center). A ‘scanlist’ is a kind of preset tour function that toggles automatically between presets saved on the camera.
