License plate recognition camera

by Mark Rowe

VIVOTEK, the Taiwanese IP surveillance product company, has introduced a new license plate recognition camera, the IB9387-LPR. Featuring number plate recognition software and edge-computing without additional server, the camera can identify license plates from over 70 countries, the manufacturer says. The developer describes it as an all-in-one device for parking access control and ‘Stop and Go’ toll systems.

The product also offers access control management through ‘black’ and ‘white’ lists and multi-site camera central maintenance. With a black and white list embedded inside the camera, the control barrier will open the gate when a white list vehicle is detected. On the other hand, a black list vehicle will trigger an alarm and a notification will be sent to security staff. Those in charge of parking lots with multiple entry points no longer need to upgrade system one after another. They can upload lists to a single, central LPR camera and all the other LPR cameras will download the master list, reducing installation time and maintenance the firm says.

Thanks to its various Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), third-party systems such as parking management, toll collection, and weighbridge systems are able to receive live LPR images with specific country, state, date, time, and confidence level from the camera. The product has its cybersecurity protected by Trend Micro IoT Security.
