Integrated Systems

Surveillance storage partner

by Mark Rowe

Partizan Security, the Czech brand of video surveillance and access control systems, has a new partnership with Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH. Now Partizan equipment will include Toshiba hard drives, that have been developed for video surveillance systems. Toshiba surveillance hard drives in the S300 and S300 Pro series have passed tests for 24-7 performance, the firms report.

Partizan says that the Toshiba Electronics Europe supply chain fits perfectly with its development. The main task of both brands is to promote their products to security professionals and provide them with support, in private installations and in large projects.

Partizan adds that it offers its customers stable, quality products with competitive prices. Dmitry Danilchenko, Founder of Partizan Security, says: “Toshiba is close to us not only from a technology perspective, but also in spirit and culture. It is absolutely logical and correct that we want to see our product equipped by the manufacturer with the same approach to customers, market, and the educational program of consumers. We looked closely, monitored, analysed quality and cost, collected feedback from our customers, and now the circle is complete – we are ready for this strategic cooperation, offering our customers a series of Toshiba professional hard drives, and completely abandoning other manufacturers.”

Since January, Partizan’s DVRs (digital recorders) and NVRs (network recorders) are powered with Toshiba S300 and S300 Pro surveillance hard drives, available in capacities from 1 to 10 TB.

Jeff Briggs, Senior Manager, Distribution Sales at Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH said: “Toshiba Electronics Europe recognises Partizan Security’s commitment to innovation through their own comprehensive brand of recorders and cameras. We welcome the company as a strategic partner for surveillance storage and are very excited to launch Toshiba’s range of S300 and S300 Pro Surveillance hard drives for Partizan Security partner’s storage solutions.”

About the drives

The S300 series is based on shingled magnetic recording (SMR) that uses overlapped tracks for data density, leaving just the required magnetic surface needed for correct reading. This contrasts with conventional magnetic recording (CMR) where each track is separated by a small distance. As a result, SMR allows higher capacities for the same magnetic area as a CMR drive to help improve total cost of ownership (TCO), the developers say. An appropriate cache-architecture compensates for potential disadvantages of random re-writing of overlapped tracks making the S300 series suitable for small-to-medium-scale surveillance applications, according to the manufacturer. For large-scale surveillance systems that require up to 64 high-definition camera streams, video analytics, face-tracking and editing functions, Toshiba offers the S300 Pro series.
