Perimeter system

by Mark Rowe

Senstar, the Canadian manufacturer of perimeter intrusion detection systems (PIDS) has announced StarNet 2, its new security management system (SMS), is now available worldwide. It was launched in the United States and Canada in April.

Stewart Dewar, Senstar’s Product Manager, said: “StarNet 2 is a turnkey solution for sites of all sizes – from small sites requiring basic perimeter security to large sites with complex security requirements. Organised around a visual, map-based interface, StarNet 2 offers a streamlined user experience for operators handling everything from daily routines to crisis situations, enabling organizations to reduce reaction times, improve efficiency, and safeguard personnel and property.”

The product provides security management features including graphic, text, and audio notifications of alarms and events; customisable workflows; event and user activity logging for compliance to security procedures; and a rules engine for event- and schedule-based actions. It can be installed and configured in hours, the makers say, using a point-and-click set-up tool. And, this can be done before the physical sensor installation, making the system ready to go live as soon as the rest of the work is complete.

Mr Dewar added: “StarNet 2 works with Senstar sensors out-of-the-box, integrates with third-party video management systems and is compatible with standard Windows operating systems. It is currently in use at several correctional facilities in the United States and has been working very effectively. We are excited to now not only be introducing the product to our customers worldwide, but to be conducting a training session for system integrators in Singapore on September 9-10.”

Senstar’s other products include: FlexZone, a ranging fence-mounted sensor with flexible zoning through software; FiberPatrol, a ranging fibre detection product; and OmniTrax, the company’s ranging buried cable detection sensor.
