Mobile access for hotel guests

by Mark Rowe

Zaplox, a provider of mobile keys for the hospitality industry, has integrated its products with SALTO Systems. Zaplox will be the first in its field to announce its integration with SALTO Systems. This allows any property with SALTO BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) enabled locks installed to use mobile access for their guests. Those guests of properties with SALTO access control systems will now be able to use their smartphones for guest room access, while allowing hoteliers to offer and promote revenue-creating smart services with hotel branding on the Zaplox Mobile Key Services app. These ancillary services, which can be made available in the app, include mobile check-in and check-out, room upgrades, restaurant bookings and room service.

The Zaplox Mobile Key Services app is available for all major smartphone platforms. The firms point to recent industry research that more than 70 percent of travellers would opt to use their smartphones as a check-in alternative. Zaplox says that its services allow guests to bypass the front desk altogether, saving them time. Mobile keys are described as secure, since a guest’s smartphone is less likely to be misplaced than a plastic keycard and typically is password protected. Should a guest lose their phone, mobile keys can be revoked and reassigned in real time by hotel staff.

Magnus Friberg, CEO at Zaplox, called it an important collaboration, since it opens new market possibilities: “We strongly believe that mobile keys and the additional services included will improve both guest loyalty and enhance the guest experience by making it smooth and comfortable.“

And Jennifer Stack, Vice President Marketing SALTO Systems, says: “Research shows guest demand for the use of smartphones and apps as part of their hotel experience is increasing. So this integration with Zaplox is perfectly placed to deliver an exciting range of benefits enabling them to enjoy all the advantages provided by integrated smart technology to maximize the flexibility and enjoyment of their hotel stay.”
