Securitas UK at ASIS Europe

by Mark Rowe

This year’s ASIS European Security Conference & Exhibition in London was protected by security officers provided by Securitas UK. The event from April 6 to 8 at the Business Design Centre in Islington was attended by hundreds of security professionals. Delegates also enjoyed behind-the-scenes tours of some of London’s landmark buildings including the British Museum.

As well as providing the on-site security, Securitas was a Platinum sponsor of the event and had staff on hand to provide information about its protective services and solutions approach.

Russell Handley, Securitas Regional Business Development Director for City of London, gave a presentation on ‘Intelligent Security: using technology to make smarter security decisions’. He discussed how to develop greater business intelligence by harnessing the big data gathered through increasingly sophisticated and innovative security technology to provide greater business intelligence, leading to business insights.

Securitas security officers were providing access control for the meeting and exhibition areas as well as security protection to attending dignitaries and speakers. Having undertaken a full risk assessment of the main venue and evening event locations, Securitas worked with ASIS and other agencies including the police.

David Clark, Chair of ASIS UK Chapter 208, said before the event: “I was delighted when it was confirmed that Securitas would be supporting the ASIS European Conference this year. The very nature of the event means that it is both high profile and high risk and this, of course, presents many challenges. As the UK Chapter Chairman, it is essential for me that this event is safe, secure and that there is minimum impact on delegates despite extraordinary security measures having to be in place.”
