Record dozen awards for Securitas

by Mark Rowe

Securitas employees have collectively gained a company record of 12 regional titles in the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Security Personnel Awards 2014, which mark outstanding work by officers. Securitas’ 12 regional winners are pictured with Country President Brian Riis Nielsen (far right) and Commercial Director Mike Clancy (far left).

Spencer Harbron is one of them honoured for going the extra mile, in the category of Outstanding Act for the North East. His quick thinking was tested after a vehicle crashed into a house near Sunderland’s Monkwearmouth hospital, where he was on duty.

Spencer rang the emergency services, and then identifying the gravity of the crash and smelling gas, he forced open the door and pulled the driver, who was slumped over the wheel, to safety. He then entered the property, found an elderly resident upstairs and escorted them to safety.

Securitas officers Gary Douglas and Ajaz Ahmed won for show vigilance when witnessing a male following a woman into toilets in York. Both officers investigated and encountered a woman being sexually assaulted. Although the offender fled the scene, later that month Ajaz recognised the male and contacted the police, resulting in an arrest.

These officers, with the other Securitas regional winners, will now proceed to the national judging phase of the awards, which will culminate in an awards ceremony at the BSIA’s annual lunch in London on July 16.

Brian Riis Nielsen, Securitas Country President, said: “It’s fantastic for the commitment and dedication of professionals in this industry to be acknowledged in this way, and we’re obviously thrilled that Securitas officers have dominated the regional awards. We’re proud that our staff across the country go above and beyond in their duties every day, and we wish them the best of luck for the national judging.”
