Officers of Distinction

by Mark Rowe

Three officers from First Response Group (FRG) were among winners at the annual ACS Pacesetters Security Officer of Distinction Awards.

The awards are run by ACS Pacesetters, a group of security companies who are SIA Approved Contractor Scheme companies that have a score in the top 15pc of accredited companies. The awards celebrate front-line security staff who have carried out exceptional actions on duty.

Nikki Roberts, Carl Whittock and John Brigden from FRG all received their award at a lunch on May 25, at Windsor Racecourse, attended by security industry people and end users. The three were chosen by the judges as one of the 12 award recipients from around 100 entries for their work as Mobile Security Officers at a HS2 location for FRG’s client EKFB, a joint venture that brings together four civil engineering and construction companies Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall for the London Euston to Birmingham rail line.

The officers were alerted to a serious road traffic accident on public roads close to their location and arrived at the crash site 20 minutes before the ambulance services. Due to a FRG and EKFB rapid response initiative whereby mobile security officers working on the HS2 project have First Responder On Scene (FROS) training, the officers had the skills required to provide immediate emergency care to those trapped in their vehicles until the 999 services arrived.

Leeds based First Response Group provide security, risk and facilities management solutions to private and public sector clients across a range of industries. Simon Alderson, FRG CEO said: “We are extremely proud of Nikki, Carl and John and we are thrilled their outstanding actions have been recognised by these prestigious industry awards.

“This accident happened on public roads outside of their assigned project, but our officers did not hesitate to respond and used their advanced FROS training provided by EKFB to ensure the safety of members of the public involved in the crash and potentially saving lives.

“They are shining examples of our employees living FRG’s values of innovation, professionalism and excellence.”

FRG has been working on HS2 sites for the last six years across the ground working and enabling phases.

In January, FRG began providing manned security services to EKFB locations along the HS2 route. FRG SIA-licensed officers patrol and monitor the sites; and FRG deploy mobile patrol vehicles (MPVs) across the project for EKFB to provide rapid response to security, logistics and first aid incidents.
