Diversity Week

by Mark Rowe

From Monday 21 September, Mitie, the facilities management company, is marking Diversity Week. The company will be hosting a series of events, workshops, online training, and key-note speeches across the UK and Ireland, to raise awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion at work.

Karen Govier, Group Diversity and Inclusion Manager, says: “At Mitie, we’re passionate about building a diverse and inclusive business. We’re focused on supporting and developing all of our people, irrespective of gender, age, race, faith, sexual orientation, disability or culture. This week is a chance to further raise awareness and understanding of what makes each person in Mitie unique; to celebrate our differences, that make our business so successful and a really great place to work.”

The week includes:

· A quiz hosted at Channel 4, designed to test competitors’ knowledge on culture, disability and equality

· Proud to be, Mitie’s LGBTQ+ employee network, will be discussing what businesses can learn about diversity from sport and hearing from inspiring speakers from the world of sport

· Mitie’s Finance Director, Suzanne Baxter will be discussing her remarkable journey and how we should do more to encourage young women who are considering entering the profession

· MiHomecare, Mitie’s home care business, will be hosting a number of diversity days open to all Mitie people, customers, and external stakeholders, celebrating different cultures, tastes and ideas

· Mindwise, the mental health charity, will be holding a workshop at Mitec, Mitie’s intelligent security hub, to discuss and develop good mental health practices in the workplace.

· Mitie’s charitable partner, Remploy, a provider of specialist employment services to disabled and disadvantaged people who experience complex barriers to work, will be hosting a series of open days across the country promoting disability in the workplace.
