Diversity award

by Mark Rowe

Mitie, the facilities management company, picked up The Diversity Award at the annual British Insurance Awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

A new category, The Diversity Award was introduced to recognise the work of those bringing about a positive change.
Finalists alongside Mitie in the Diversity Award category included AIG UK, Inclusion@Lloyd’s, The Chartered Insurance Institute, Weightmans and Zurich Insurance.

Lee Sadowski, Director of Mitie’s Property Solutions business said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this year’s Diversity Award and would like to thank the BIA and the judges for recognising our passion and commitment towards encouraging diversity in business and the wider community. Mitie Property Solutions is a relatively new business in the insurance sector but I believe we bring a fresh perspective to service delivery for our clients.

“Our people are from all walks of life with a wide range of experiences and we try to harness this to provide our claimants with a personable, first class service that is reflective of today’s diverse society.”

Karen Govier, Group Diversity and Inclusion Manager, said: “This is a brand new category for 2015 and to be recognised for diversity amongst such prestigious organisations is amazing. We are thrilled!”

The FM contractor employs around 70,000 people and points to being the Times’ Top 50 Employer for women 2015 for the fifth consecutive year; and signing a formal partnership with Remploy in March 2014, resulting in 80 new disabled recruits and a series of disability awareness sessions.
