At the Security Industry Authority’s ACS assessor conference in Kenilworth on April 18, Steve Draper, Auditor (Services) at the NSI (National Security Inspectorate) was awarded the SIA Ambassador Award. Earlier, SIA Assessing Bodies were asked to submit nominations for four awards, including the Ambassador Award. The SIA’s Approved Contractor Scheme team selected a winner for each category.

The Ambassador Award went to “the assessor who has best represented the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme to approved contractors and/or other stakeholders”.

An extract of NSI’s submission for the Ambassador Award is below:

“Steve takes his role as an ACS Assessor very seriously; his diligence is second to none always ensuring complete and full understanding of every aspect of the ACS, any special instructions and all related standards. His desire to represent the SIA, and NSI, in an authoritative, positive way drives this thirst for expanding the depth of his own and assessed companies knowledge and seeing ‘fair play’. He is acutely aware that as an assessor he is seen as a representative of the SIA in the eyes of the approved companies and they look to him as the authoritative source of ACS knowledge.”

In 2006 NSI was one of the first organisations to be appointed by the SIA as a third party assessing body for their Approved Contractor Scheme and is authorised to conduct assessments of guarding service organisations to the requirements of the scheme. The ACS is focused on business operation and best practice and NSI schemes additionally audits companies against the Industry British Standard relevant for their sectors.
