Wireless camera

by Mark Rowe

Now available from Sony, its SNC-CX600W wireless camera, designed for small businesses. Sony is also adding the SNC-CX600 High Definition (HD) security camera to the range for wired, Power over Ethernet (PoE) installations.

The two cameras, featuring wide viewing angles and 720p image quality, are said bythe firm to be suitable for large public and private enterprises, and for anyone wishing to set up security in their shops, offices and stores. The new SNC-CX600W and SNC-CX600 cameras offer high-resolution imaging, white LED illumination and built-in recording, in a compact design.

Both units come with Sony’s original IPELA ENGINE EX unique integrated signal processing, with a lens that covers a full 120 degrees—or about 50 per cent wider, it is claimed, than other cameras in the same class. The broader coverage helps reduce the number of cameras needed to cover any given space.

Each camera also includes a motion sensor that works in light and dark; white LED illumination that enables colour recording; and speaker and a microphone. As an example, when the motion sensor detects an intruder, the camera can respond by switching on wide-angle LED illumination, playing out an alert and a pre-recorded voice message, while also sending an email notification to the user. Live images of the event and playback of recordings on the optional SD card are available for viewing through Internet Explorer. The CX600W camera is Wi-Fi certified so users can enjoy stable network transmission as well as easy network security settings with the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) standard.

Since these cameras have edge storage, they can store images and audio onto microSD or Micro SDHC cards and capture motion-triggered images without use of an external recorder – another way for users to use less space.

Sony’s new SNC-CX600W camera is already available in Europe and the SNC-CX600 will be in December 2013; visit http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/products/video-security.

Sony has added two new pan-tilt-zoom, HD remotely-operated cameras to its range: the SRG-120DH and SRG-300H. The SRG range offers imaging at 1080p 60fps.

The new cameras, which can be controlled over IP, are designed for remote shooting and monitoring and are for lecture capture, corporate meeting rooms, education, video-conferencing and telemedicine. Alessandro Marcello, Product Manager Visual Communication solutions, Sony Europe, said: “The SRG-120DH and SRG-300H PTZ cameras are ideal for nearly any remote shooting and monitoring application, such as lecture capture, corporate meeting rooms, education, videoconferencing and telemedicine environments. High quality, high definition video has become an expectation, and the new SRG line is an easy to operate, cost-effective solution for a variety of applications.”
