Camera in IP and HD

by Mark Rowe

Pelco by Schneider Electric’s Esprit Series camera is now available in IP and high-definition (HD) with the new Esprit HD Series IP Positioning System. The Esprit HD provides users with ive streaming of images over the internet using a standard web browser. Pelco stresses that it’s being IP-driven and that its IP-driven cameras are designed for any lighting condition, application and use.

Craig Dahlman, director of accessory products, Schneider Electric, Pelco Video Line of Business, said: “For more than a decade, the Esprit Series has been a standard for high-performance, integrated PTZ camera systems among security professionals. We’re excited to now offer this industry favourite to our customers with IP compatibility and high-definition video surveillance with six times the resolution of standard definition positioning systems.”

The products offer the makers say integration into virtually any IP-based HD system through customisable settings and are suitable it is claimed to view details such as faces, number plates and playing cards in casinos. Features include a built-in analytics suite with nine pre-loaded behaviours to detect potential threats caught on camera. They can be configured using a standard web browser. The analytic tools can sound an alarm to notify system operators of unusual activity and are compatible with Endura and other third-party products.

Through built-in analytic tools, the Esprit HD can be programmed for example with “Object Counting” to count the number of people that enter a lobby door in the day, then adjusted in the evening to detect “camera sabotage” to trigger an alarm if a camera is moved or obstructed. Other customisation is available through settings, such as “Window Blanking,” to conceal user-defined privacy areas that cannot be viewed by an operator. Esprit HD supports up to 32 blanked windows, with blanked areas appearing on the screen as a solid gray window.

A powder-coated, aluminum construction protects the Esprit HD, making it suitable the firm says for indoor and or outdoor uses. The Esprit HD also features a receiver, pan/tilt capabilities and is available with an Integrated Optics Package (IOP) or a pressurized Integrated Optics Cartridge (IOC).

Esprit HD supports High-Profile H.264 compression for image and audio quality over MPEG-4 that is 20 times more efficient than MJPEG, the makers claim. And the new Esprit is also compatible with Digital Sentry NVs (DS NVs), video management software, which is available as a free download at www.pelco.com. DS NVs includes four free Pelco IP licenses and allows for the management of video from up to 64 cameras. Visit: www.pelco.com.
