Wireless detector

by Mark Rowe

Pyronix has released its first wireless low-mounted external volumetric detector. The new XDL12TT-WE, pictured, combines Pyronix Enforcer two-way wireless technology with external detection protocols, including: Dual-Vision Pet Immune, Tri-Signal Detection Logic and Gaussian Frequency Modulation (GFM), as a wireless external detector.

Pyronix Marketing Manager, Laurence Kenny, said: “This combination of Pyronix technologies brings a new dimension to external detection and to the market. When it comes to perimeter security, it is literally the first line of defence for any property. Large fences and locked gates can be effective deterrents, but not always the most practical or secure method.

“What is clear, is that perimeter protection can play a vital role in deterring the intruder from attempting a break-in. This is why Pyronix has analysed external environments and the requirements for reliable and stable detection, to deliver an effective, easy-to-install wireless solution.”

The XDL12TT-WE is IP55 weatherproof-rated and consists of two independent passive infrared (PIR) sensors and one microwave (MW) sensor in one common housing. This Tri-Technology (TT) of the XDL12TT-WE is for outdoor use. To identify the presence of an intruder, the detector uses Tri-Signal Detection Logic alongside TT, whereby all three sensors must be activated sequentially in quick succession to create an alarm. The product developers say this heightens the detector’s immunity to false alarms.

Pyronix has also pre-empted potential false alarm issues from the presence of pets or swaying branches, by including Dual-Vision Pet Immune and Anti-Sway Analytics features. The two PIRs of the detector have a dedicated volumetric field of view, with the top PIR detecting outwards and up, while the bottom PIR detects outwards and down, without either crossing the central horizontal plane between them. This setup of non-overlapping PIR sensors alongside Tri-Signal Detection Logic, delivers sequential detection and increases its tolerance to pet immunity, the makers say. Anti-Sway Analytics digitally filters the surrounds to distinguish between the movement of trees and plants from the movements of an intruder, against false alarm activations.

The Enforcer two-way wireless offers full supervision, anti-jamming and 128-bit wireless protocol encryption, so that signals transmitted by the system are protected and any code-grabbing is prevented. Installation comes without the invasive nature of fitting wired peripherals. Instant Two-Way Device Control (ITDC) enables the wake-up or sleep of devices as the system is set or unset. So, when the system is set, the XDL12TT-WE is awake, without any sleep timers, unlike the firm says other devices on the market. When the system is unset, the XDL12TT-WE sleeps.

In terms of the wireless signal, the new product’s receiver reduces the need for repeaters and thus reduces the installation costs, as it is capable of a wireless signal range of up to 1.6km in open space. The antenna of the detector ensures that the signals being transmitted and received are as strong as possible. Using Gaussian Frequency Modulation (GFM) to spread the signal, while reducing unwanted noise and harmonics, enables the latest Pyronix detector to meet European, ETSI and other worldwide standards.

Laurence Kenny added: “As we continually look to improve and develop our offerings, the XDL12TT-WE is the latest innovation. Easy to fit and offering superb protection, the new XDL12TT-WE offers a fantastically flexible solution.”
