New from Eaton’s security business is the latest software for its Menvier and Scantronic i-on intruder control panels – V4.04.
The V4.04 features a virtual keypad –that can be accessed via a web browser interface. By using a web browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Microsoft Internet Explorer, via almost any desktop and mobile device, installers and users can gain remote access to a control panel from anywhere by using an on-screen version of a physical keypad.
Eaton says that its software updates allow its control panels to operate to the latest performance and regulatory standards. They add features to products that, if not available, would otherwise necessitate purchasing a new system – enhancing the longevity of hardware and maximising return on investment, the company adds.
V4.04 is free and any installers who are part of Eaton’s Touchpoint Membership Programme are able to update control panels with the new software.
Users can add and delete users from the system, set and unset control panel features and reset all mains fail faults, regardless of the source. Displayed alerts and faults now alternate between the device number and device name, whereas before the user had to toggle manually to see other information. Non-essential items can also be remotely switched off, which helps increase the system’s functionality and makes it more energy efficient. In the event of an incident, users can extract an event timeline, which provides an audit trial.
An improved feature is the ability of the system to transmit a text message to a user to alert them about an alarm. This used to rely on network operators’ SMS bureaus, which often proved to be unreliable. V4.04 has added ETSI Protocol 1 functionality as a way to send a text message over PSTN and increase the performance of this feature.
