SBD installer first

by Mark Rowe

Tindall Security have become the first alarm installation company accredited by Secured by Design (SBD), the official UK police security scheme.

Secured by Design launched an alarm standard for alarm installation companies which covers existing criteria while building on police and industry knowledge. The new alarm standard will ensure a quality alarm system, reduce false calls and give customers reassurance that an alarm installer meets police standards.

Tindall with in–house system designers offer from domestic burglar alarms to commercial protection. Their services include CCTV systems, fire alarms, and video doorbells. The company is NSI Gold and SSAIB accredited.

Ken Meanwell, of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI), the umbrella company behind SbD said: “I am absolutely delighted that Tindall Security have become the first accredited SBD alarm installation company, as it has never been more important for consumers to rely on professional companies to deliver high quality alarm systems and services.

“Compliant alarm systems and reputable installation companies are essential to ensure that you will get the appropriate response to an alarm activation. If the system is not compliant there will not be an immediate police response, something which could be vital if someone is in immediate danger or property is being stolen.”

David Pomfrett at Tindall said: “We’re thrilled to be the first company afforded the Secured by Design accreditation for alarm installation in the country. We work to provide people with peace of mind, and being an official police initiative, this will go a long way to reassure our customers.”

And SSAIB chief executive Alex Carmichael added: “We would like to congratulate SSAIB-registered firm Tindall Security for being the first company in the UK to achieve SBD alarm installation certification. One of the many benefits of third-party certification is that it allows companies to display their conformity to the relevant British and European Standards, while this new standard also permits them to further enhance their credentials – and their standing within the industry – by being named as a Police Preferred Specification alarm installer as well.”

Ruari Robertson said: “I am thrilled that Tindall Security, a family run business, have become the first accredited alarm installer with Secured by Design and look forward to developing our working relationship over the coming months.”

Police point out that the new SBD alarm standard is not a replacement for the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Security Systems Policy (NPCC SSP) or an alternative for certification by one of the UKAS accredited certification bodies NSI or SSAIB. An installer meeting the SBD alarm standard now has the option of joining this SBD scheme, after an assessment from their alarm inspectorate, whereby buyers have confidence in installers using the ‘Police Preferred Specification’ branding. Only SBD Alarm Installers and other SBD members are permitted to promote the term ‘Police Preferred Specification’ and use the logos and trademarks.
