Le Tour de Corps

by Mark Rowe

Some Corps Security personnel are riding across the UK to raise funds for the Commando Sprit Appeal.

The charity cycle ride covers more than 700 miles in one week.

The idea of National Account Sales Manager, Rob Hill, it’s in aid of the Commando Spirit Appeal, Corps Security’s chosen charity. He will be accompanied by colleagues Fal Bassadien, Paul Redican and Scott Hudson; and Rob Haywood will join them for the final three days. Rob and his team will cycle via all 12 mainland Corps Security offices, starting at Stevenage on Sunday, April 28, taking in London, Crawley, Bracknell, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Wakefield, Newcastle, Edinburgh and finishing (seven days and 760 miles later) in Glasgow. Pictured left to right: Paul Redican, Rob Hill and Scott Hudson.

Spending an estimated 56 hours in the saddle, Rob’s aim is to raise awareness and funds for the charity. He is inviting any cyclists who can maintain an average of at least 25kmph (17 miles per hour) to join at any part of the ride to do a leg or more. Rob says: “A few places remain – anyone wishing to join us can purchase one of our specially printed cycling jerseys – the proceeds from which will go towards the charity. If they can also encourage their friends, families and colleagues to sponsor them, that would be even better!”

GPS tracking will show live progress of the tour. Daily blog updates and twitter feeds will give the day’s events.

To support this cause, spread the word on Twitter, or ‘like’ the Tour de Corps page on Facebook and connect with him and ‘liking’ his updates on Linked-in. Or donate on-line by visiting www.justgiving.com/tourdecorps.

Rob Hill says: “I’m genuinely excited about this project, but it truly needs the support and input of others in order for it to work.”

Commando Spirit raises money for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF), which supports Royal Marines when they are deployed on operations, when they are wounded in combat and when recovering from the battlefield. The fund continues to support Royal Marines when they leave the Marines and also provides for the families of those who lose their lives.
