Crime prevention qualification

by Mark Rowe

A second cohort of officers from Dyfed-Powys Police has completed the accredited Level 4 Certificate in Crime Prevention for Practitioners qualification.

Chief Inspector Mark McSweeney, Dyfed-Powys Police, said: “We are committed to investing not only in our Neighbourhood Policing Teams but also in our communities. We recognise crime prevention is pivotal to demand reduction and we intend to maximise this through the effective use of our specialist staff. Our Primary aim is to focus on identifying the root causes of problems within our area. This will allow us to connect with our communities, work smarter and embed preventative policing as our core functionality”.

At the Police Crime Prevention Academy (PCPA), the Head of Academy Guy Collyer said: “We were delighted to be approached by Dyfed-Powys to provide a second local delivery of the Level 4 crime prevention qualification, which underpins the knowledge and experience that already exists amongst the officers undertaking the qualification.

“We linked in with the force Designing Out Crime Officer and the Counter Terrorism Security Adviser to help ensure that content was bespoke for Dyfed-Powys Police, and also ensured input from the Police Digital Security Centre and from the National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service.

“As an established provider of police training and the only ProQual approved centre with the exclusive link to Secured by Design, the Academy can deliver a UK recognised qualification that meets local needs at a competitive cost.”

Background

The Level 4 crime prevention qualification is a qualification in its own right and also provides a stepping stone to the accredited Level 5 Diploma in Crime Prevention – Designing Out Crime.

The PCPA has also developed and delivers qualifications and bespoke events for the private sector, works closely with local authorities as an APSE approved partner, and with relevant specialists including architects, with its RIBA approved presentation, and planners. The PCPA is part of the police-owned Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI).
