ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, part of ASSA ABLOY UK, has supplied fire doorsets for The Shard, the new building that is to “redefine” London’s skyline.
The Shard lies on the South Bank in the city’s vibrant new London Bridge Quarter. The “vertical city” will be the tallest building in Western Europe, at 1,016ft tall, and will house offices, restaurants, luxury residencies and a top-class hotel.
The ‘View from The Shard’ is set to become one of the capital’s most sought-after visitor attractions, offering an impressive and unrivalled observatory, with views spanning 40 miles across the city. Steel fire doors from ASSA ABLOY Security Doors have been installed into the risers of the Spire core, above the viewing galleries, to maintain public safety in anticipation of the high-volume of visitors.
Projection hinges were integrated into the doorsets, allowing sub-contractor, EMTEC, to apply a surface cladding panel to the door, leveling it flush to the wall and creating a clean, modern finish, in keeping with the sharp design principles of the build.
