OPTEX REDWALL puts WCCTV towers on track

by Amy

REDWALL® detectors from OPTEX® are at the heart of a new rapid deployment security tower from Wireless CCTV (WCCTV) that is the first to be approved by Network Rail for use trackside.

Based in Rochdale, WCCTV is a leading supplier of mobile surveillance products for traffic, utilities, central and local governments, military and rail markets. It has manufactured a rapid deployment tower, featuring the REDWALL SIP detectors that have thus far been used in locations to prevent the theft of metal from storage yards, construction machinery from building sites, and to prevent interference at power stations and utility sites including the national grid.

In the event of an unwanted intrusion, the REDWALL detectors alert a remote monitoring station. The event can then be seen in real time, as it happens, the images recorded, and an appropriate response determined. This may be via a live audio challenge or the intrusion can be reported to the police or relevant mobile response unit. The sensors and camera are designed to be tamper proof, so if would-be burglars attempt to mask or damage them and thereby affect the integrity of the system, an alert is sent to the monitoring station.

Each tower is an all-in-one surveillance system designed to operate trackside; it is non-conductive, can be set up in minutes, has a battery life of up to eight weeks and provides video footage when one of the OPTEX detectors has been activated, which can either be recorded or relayed to a control room via mobile or satellite signal.

Following trials using a number of other detectors on the market, Adam Haworth, Sales Director, saysthat WCCTV opted for a partnership with OPTEX for a number of reasons: “OPTEX detectors are renowned for their reliability and for reducing the number offalse alarms generated by other products,” he says. “Our engineers were also impressed by their capability to detect intruders up to 100m, in addition to it being the best performing detector against the cost.”

Takuya Okamoto, Managing Director for Optex Europe, says that the latest REDWALL is proven in even the most challenging environments: “The size and complexity of construction and utility sites can be enough to cause some detectors to constantly alarm,” he says.

“The REDWALL V detector, however, utilises an ‘I-viewer’ with associated blanking plates. This enables installers to effectively ‘frame’ the detection pattern, to block out areas that might cause issues with false alarms, for more accuracy with regards to targeting, and to restrict zones for optimum performance.”
