Licensed premises in St Andrews in Fife have established a pubwatch association.
?An acceptable standard of behaviour is a requirement from all customers socialising in licensed premises in St Andrews. Those who don’t meet standards are normally asked to leave. St Andrews Pubwatch Association members have signed an information-sharing protocol and an exclusion policy. These policies provided an option to deal with those whose behaviour requires stronger action.??Phil Gould, Chairperson of St Andrews Pubwatch Association, said, "By working together and sharing information we exclude persons whose behaviour falls below what is acceptable in and around premises in St Andrews and hopefully make potential offenders think twice about their behaviour.??Inspector Bruce Thomson of Fife Constabulary said, "I am encouraged by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the licensed trade in St Andrews. It sends a message that the Police and the licensed trade of St Andrews will not tolerate violent and disorderly behaviour. The person responsible will not only be subject to a potential court appearance, they will effectively be excluded from all licensed premises in the St Andrews Pubwatch Association."??To enable the group to improve communication with each other they have agreed a trial with APEX for the use of a radio link. This system is an early warning which will allow them to alert each other about incidents or give information on any persons ejected from their premise. Members will receive their radio and training to make sure they are established in time for the Open Golf championship.
