Key management specialist Traka has been presented with its Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the presence of local dignitaries and business partners.

The Olney-based company won the award for International Trade, four years after receiving the Queen’s Award for Innovation.

Around 200 people attended the ceremony, including customers, distributors and suppliers, and the Lord Lieutenant and the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire. Coinciding with the conclusion of Traka’s four-day International Sales Conference, the presentation gave invited guests the opportunity to see the company’s factory and production area, as well as a number of product demonstrations illustrating the diversity of the Traka range.

Half of Traka’s growing turnover is generated by export business to more than 26 countries. Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, presenting the award on behalf of the Queen, said: "Traka is an excellent example of how an increasing number of British businesses are leading the way in many diverse markets around the world. Traka’s concentration on innovation and ongoing product development has enabled it to take its export business from strength to strength."

Giving an overview of Traka’s history and business successes, Managing Director John Kent praised the dedication of his staff and also gave credit to Traka’s strong distributor base. "I’m delighted that our continued efforts have been recognised and rewarded," he said. "This achievement reflects more than 12 years of inspired technical development and international sales success."

Traka’s range of access control products includes management of keys to control access to vehicles, property and equipment; specialised fleet management solutions offering the option of alcohol testing; lockers for high value items such as PDAs, laptops and security radios; tool management (used in the aerospace industry); fork lift truck solutions for distribution centres and specialist process control solutions developed for the petrochemical industry to ensure compliance and key management for pipelines and other critical environments.

Traka’s distributor network extends into 20 countries and the company has grown its overseas revenue by 500pc in recent years through the development of a successful and committed sales base, targeting business in countries with strong market potential. Customers range from petrochemicals in South Africa, to national defence organisations in Australia; from the Vatican to the Louvre and the European Parliament. In the UK, Traka is used in the distribution sector, by police, prisons and hospitals and in locations like the O2 Dome, Kew Gardens and The British Library.
