Making A Mark At Essen

by msecadm4921

Selectamark is showcasing its range of SelectaDNA property marking products at Security Essen (5-8 October 2010) at stand 3-502 N, Hall 3.

SelectaDNA is a forensic property marking system which is being used in the UK and Continent in numerous police crime reduction initiatives. By using SelectaDNA, burglaries and residential theft have been reduced by 85pc in some areas, it’s claimed. Behind the scenes, SelectaDNA is also being used in police undercover surveillance and sting operations, resulting in convictions and bringing criminals to justice.

Andrew Knights, Managing Director of Selectamark, said: “We have built up a comprehensive range of forensic DNA products which are market leaders in their respective fields. We are keen to demonstrate these products to a wide audience at Security Essen and in particular to any international visitors who may be interested in joining our fast-growing SelectaDNA distributor network.”

Selectamark’s German distributor SDNA Forensische Markierungstechnolgie GmbH has already implemented residential property marking schemes using SelectaDNA in Bremen and Bremerhaven. SelectaDNA was recently awarded a Gutachten, the first forensic marking product to achieve this technical confirmation of safety. The company’s Dutch distributor, Rhine Group BV, recently won a major contract to protect the main rail infrastructure in the Netherlands from metal theft, using SelectaDNA to mark copper and other metals targeted by thieves.

SelectaDNA Spray System
The latest SelectaDNA product – an intruder spray system, is also being used in New Zealand, and is being installed in every branch of BNZ (Bank of New Zealand). The SelectaDNA intruder spray uses forensic DNA to link offenders directly to the crime scene and is proving to be one of the most effective ways to deter commercial burglaries and smash-and-grab raids. It can be fitted at multiple entry points of premises such as corner shops, supermarket chains, jewellers, warehouses and petrol stations, immediately target hardening any building.
Once activated, the DNA spray emits a burst of hi-tech forensic solution onto the offenders. The solution contains a UV tracer and a unique DNA code, linking them irrefutably to the scene of the crime. Traces of the DNA solution can be taken from the skin, hair and clothing of offenders, and sent away for forensic analysis to prove that they have broken into a particular premises. Although invisible and harmless, the UV and DNA will remain on an offender for weeks – clinging to fibres and sitting in creases of the skin.

The spray system is in use in the Netherlands, where it has been involved in police initiatives to reduce retail crime in Rotterdam.

Simon Nab, project manager for SelectaDNA in Holland, said: “The DNA Spray system has been fitted to a group of small retail premises and petrol stations in Rotterdam to combat the increasing number of daytime robberies there.

“Since the launch of the scheme, there have been no robberies reported from these outlets, which is impressive as they are located in one of the top three crime ‘hotspots’ in Rotterdam, and are considered at high risk for robbery.”

The spray system is also being used in the UK to protect jewellery and convenience stores.

SelectaDNA product:

SelectaDNA (www.selectadna.co.uk) is available in liquid, gel, grease and spray format. The DNA marker in every SelectaDNA product is securely manufactured and encrypted so that unauthorised or criminal duplication is impossible.

The residential and commercial SelectaDNA property marking kits can be used to protect valuable equipment in office buildings, schools, colleges & universities, hospitals and local government buildings, as well as personal items belonging to householders.

Each kit contains a bottle of the SelectaDNA liquid formula, which consists of an ultraviolet (UV) tracer and a unique DNA code. The clear liquid can be applied to any workplace or household item to identify it as belonging to that particular property.

The product has multiple applications and is suitable for marking PCs, laptops, flatscreen TVs, DVD Players, mobile phones, antiques and paintings. It can also be used to mark garden shed items, motorbikes, motor vehicles, SatNav systems, horse tack, farm machinery and much more.

SelectaDNA is easy to apply and when dry, is virtually impossible to remove. It is invisible to the naked eye, but if an item is stolen and later recovered by police, it can be scanned using a UV light and traced back to the rightful owner via the DNA marking.

Police scan criminals regularly for DNA forensic traces on entry into custody suites.
