Midlands call

by Mark Rowe

The Midlands Regional Chair of the Security Systems Section of the BSIA trade body is seeking like-minded organisations in the region to meet.

Martin Watson, pictured, head of operations, integrated systems in the Total Security Management arm of the FM contractor Mitie, made the call at the joint BSIA-Skills for Security seminar on the spring 2017 changes to apprenticeships in England, on Wednesday morning, December 7, at Walsall.

Besides sections based on type of security, such as guarding, CCTV and access control, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) also runs sections based on region. Martin made the point that some companies operated across more than one specific type of security; hence the use of a meeting based on region, for companies to share BSIA info and to give feedback. As an example of changes to the sector that it was useful for BSIA members to hear about in advance, he spoke of the changes in PSTN (public switched telephone network) that will affect alarm monitoring, Martin said: “We can make other organisations aware of that, so they can prepare for it.”
