Crisis management conference

by Mark Rowe

Coherent Crisis Management: Preparedness, Response and Communications is the title of an event on Thursday, September 18 at 200 Aldersgate, London, EC1A 4HD.

It follows an inaugural Crisis Management Conference 2013. CMC 2014 will bring together figures in Crisis Preparedness, Response and Communications to discuss how their organisations are protecting their people, performance and reputation from the impact of crises, incidents and major disruptions by implementing a coherent Crisis Management Capability. Speakers include heads of Risk, Technical Services, Communications and Business Continuity at UBS, BBC, the John Lewis Partnership, Network Rail, O2 and the University of Liverpool. The UK Cabinet Office will deliver the keynote address to mark the launch of the new British Standard in Crisis Management (BS 11200).

Why this conference?

Organisers say that the frequency of crises is increasing; organisations suffering setbacks of newsworthy proportions are becoming commonplace. The topics include:

· Insights into real-life experience of managing crises; what worked and what did not

· The challenges of implementing internal crisis preparedness within an organisation.

· Creating a coherent crisis management capability in a global corporation.

· How to link your crisis management and crisis communications effectively in crisis response.

· How to manage the speed and flow of information in a 24/7 environment.

· Discussion of how organisations should learn from crises.

· Crisis management best practice – what’s in the newly published British Standard

Conference Chairman, Dominic Cockram said: “The conference is a unique opportunity for those wanting to take part in discussion of the latest Crisis Management thinking and to share practical experience with other crisis management professionals from industry, government and academia. Last year’s sell-out conference was described as ‘a cut above the rest, an event not to be missed by anyone involved in crisis management’ and we are delighted to respond to requests for it to become an annual event with the announcement of CMC 2014. We have drawn together another high calibre panel of speakers and look forward to gaining a unique insight into how a range of organisations deal with the urgent challenge of crisis management.” The conference will be held under the Chatham House Rule to promote freedom of discussion.
