After a spate of burglaries where iPads were stolen, police are rolling out a crime prevention product to schools in Northamptonshire.
Officers from Northamptonshire Police are visiting primary and secondary schools to provide crime prevention advice, and introduce a forensic marking product. SelectaDNA can be applied to electronic items including iPads, laptops, PCs and cameras, forensically marking them. The solution contains a synthetic DNA which can be used to identify the registered owner. Each school will have their own, unique solution containing microdots with a specific reference code for that school.
Laura Jones, Deputy Head of the Prevention and Community Protection Department for Northamptonshire Police, said: “The microdots in SelectaDNA enable us to immediately identify who the rightful owner is of any property that we believe is stolen. Providing this solution to schools will help us prevent them from falling victim of crime. If any items are stolen the solution will be of a great help to subsequent investigations.
“We are committed to working with schools and hope rolling-out this solution and advice will assist them in their crime prevention activities.”
