Workshop marked

by Mark Rowe

A charity in Derbyshire is protecting itself from burglary by marking equipment.

Greenaway Workshop for the Disabled in Matlock gives adults with disabilities an occupation. The workshop offers repair services and a printing facility.

The charity’s committee wanted to add security and asked PCSO Granville Nixon from Darley Dale and Winster Safer Neighbourhood Team for ideas. Nixon suggested SelectaDNA to protect from burglary and he has since visited the workshop to help apply the marking solution to printers and computers.

Each SelectaDNA kit contains a unique code that shows up under UV light and can be linked back to the registered owner. This means that if marked items are stolen and recovered, they can be returned.

Charity manager Bridget Jones has now security-marked items in the workshop. She said: “The kit is fantastic and has helped us make the centre even more secure. Our committee wanted to explore additional ways of protecting our items and PCSO Nixon’s idea was great, so we jumped at the chance. We’ve already marked our printing equipment, computers and customers’ belongings and it’s reassuring to know we have that extra level of security.”
