Water project

by Mark Rowe

One of the world’s largest infrastructure projects is in China. Started in the mid-1990s, the South-North Water Transfer Project aims to ensure enough water supply to the megacity of Beijing. Canals with a total length of 1200 kilometres divert water from the Yangtze River in the south to the North China Plain. The water is channelled via a Western, a Central, and an Eastern Route. The Eastern and Central Routes are already in operation.

Bosch Security Systems supplied security products to safeguard the Central Route, which involved the installation of 3000 video cameras, used indoors and outdoors. They secure the control centres in Beijing, Tianjin, Henan and Hebei as well as monitor sluices, dams and pipelines.

Bosch AUTODOME IP starlight 7000 cameras produce HD video images – even in extreme low light the German firm says – and identify fast-moving objects in 720p resolution with up to 60 frames per second. Thanks to Intelligent Tracking, the cameras can automatically track moving objects based on predefined alarm rules – or via a simple click.

Bosch also installed access control systems for more than 1000 doors in the main and secondary control centres. The Access Modular Controller system can connect up to eight ID card readers. And 30 type DS7400 intrusion detection panels are in use.

Video surveillance, access control systems, and intrusion detection panels are all integrated into a complete solution with the Bosch Building Integration System (BIS), so all security systems can be controlled from one single user interface.
