Refurb for Dublin restaurant

by Mark Rowe

At the Dublin city centre restaurant and pub Café en Seine, during a redesign and refurbishment, Create Security Solutions was called in to provide a discreet video surveillance system. The cameras had to blend into the art deco style of the cocktail bar’s redesign. The system had to be able monitor the venue’s till areas, and record any customer or staff health and safety issues, besides carry out the conventional function of after-hours surveillance in case of break-ins or theft. At the same time, the whole of the network design, the topology, cable lengths and routes, the network video recorder and camera settings needed to have a minimal impact on the cafe’s network’s bandwidth.

Create, based in Drogheda, used Hikvision products running on H265+ compression, to reduce bandwidth loads. Hikvision describes its H.265+ as an optimised encoding technology based on the standard H.265/HEVC compression format. H.265+ video quality is almost equivalent to H.265, but uses far less transmission bandwidth and thus also extends video storage recording capacity, the manufacturer adds.

Alex Koltunov of Create was lead engineer on the project, and oversaw the installation of the Hikvision kit. This included some 127 cameras; all discreet network mini domes which blend into the interior of the Dawson Street café.

David Murray, Café en Seine General Manager said: “We could not ask for better-quality images, and the system is extremely user friendly. From the start of this project Create have worked with us to overcome some challenges with lighting and placement of cameras, and the results speak for themselves.”
