Security and crowd management consultancy for MTV’s World Stage concert in Gothenburg, part of Sweden’s annual Midsummer Celebrations on June 21, was by the UK-based event security contractor Showsec.
Singers including Nelly Furtado, BOB and Swedish Eurovision winner Loreen took to the stage as 25,000 people gathered in Götaplatsen Square to celebrate Sweden’s summer solstice on the longest day of the year. Showsec was called in by the show producers to consult on the arrangements put in place by the Swedish authorities and ensure that they were to the standards expected by a global brand such as MTV
Director Simon Battersby attended meetings with all interested parties before the event including the local production company, Gothenburg Police Department, and city officials to observe the planning process and ensure the event was staged safely. Showsec’s regional manager Richard Church accompanied Simon to Sweden for the event, helping to oversee backstage, press and talent security.
The contract firm says that the concert marks Showsec’s long relationship working with MTV organisers, having provided the security for more than eight years at events including the MTV EMA’s and recent MTV Titanic Sounds event in Belfast.
Showsec director Simon Battersby says: “It was a real pleasure doing a show of this profile in Gothenburg. The event was a great success and there was a good collective spirit by the City, police and local security with much enthusiasm to ensure a great show.”
