Megapixels for accountants

A case study of a new surveillance system at the London NW1-based accountancy firm C Panayi & Co llp. Emma Panayi, Partner at CC Panayi & Co, says: “It is not only our client’s expectation to ensure strict confidentiality of personal information but our own internal expectation to comply with the Data Protection Act and the ICAEW [chartered accountancy institute]. We make every effort to ensure this is the case, our latest step has been to install workplace CCTV throughout the office. Installing workplace CCTV around the office was an easy decision for the partners to make. It not only helped to ensure our information was kept safe but also for the safety and well-being of our staff – our biggest assets. It is also really helpful to check health and safety rules are being complied to.”

The electronic security installer was IDS Group. Tas Kyriacou, Head of Business Development at IDS Group, says: “Many businesses are using CCTV in their workplaces to monitor property and protect their workforce. However there are several laws which apply to the issue of workplace CCTV monitoring. These include the Human Rights Act, the Data Protection Act, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, and the Lawful Business Practice Regulations. Between them, they help employers to confirm CCTV is justified and meets a particular problem. This type of CCTV is growing in demand in highly regulated industries which deal with sensitive information and data. For CCP & Co we installed 2MP IP cameras with 1080p HD resolution, which are ideal for their environment and will provide high quality footage if required.”
