Lost and found platform

by Mark Rowe

A Secured by Design (SBD) member company, a lost and found cloud-based platform for matching possessions lost by travellers, from June 1 becomes the official and exclusive UK partner for the British Transport Police for all ‘Lost and Found’ items on the nation’s railways.

The company MissingX is also becoming a full member at The British Aviation Group (BAG), assisting airlines and airports with managing lost and found items.

Since launch in 2001, MissingX has matched more than 1.8 million items against those that have been lost with a 57pc return success rate. Recovered possessions are typically iPads, mobile phones, jackets, necklaces and bags; in as little time as just a couple of hours from places as far afield as California and Vietnam.

MissingX CEO Ole-Ray Grodset said: “We had a very successful attendance, sponsored by DiT [Department for International Trade], to the Airport Show – Dubai with BAG and are now partnering with the British Transport Police. We are enabling the police to empower the public to report, both lost and found items, whilst being free of charge to the police and to members of the public. We are not only helping promote trade through Britain, but also enabling the police to focus their resources on serious & violent crime.”

Its commercial users include Bagport – Heathrow Airport, Bagport – Arlanda, Oslo, Avinor-Trondheim and Bergen as well as the two main airports serving Paris. Rail companies in the UK include Great Western Railway, TransPennine Express, South Western Railway, First Group-UK, Abellio Group-UK and Heathrow Express. Hotels include Radisson Blu Group.

As an online single search database, it has millions of items of lost and found property. The system helps police and insurers identify you as the owner, simplifying police reports and insurance claims and helping to combat fraud and theft with a reported reduction in theft of 20pc by identifying lost property versus property reported in crime. The system invites the public to prove ownership by uploading photographs and proof or ownership documents.

About MissingX

The company was launched when one of its Norwegian founders lost his bicycle, only to be disappointed by a lack of interest by the authorities and too many conflicting and unhelpful systems on the internet – lacking a single location to search for lost or found property. There’s also a Missingx Mobile app.
