King’s Cross estate gains SABRE

by Mark Rowe

The King’s Cross estate in London has gained in-Use certification to the SABRE security risk management standard. It’s the first since the SABRE scheme became a partnership between the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and the Security Institute.

The assessment of the estate’s security infrastructure, led by SABRE Licensed Company Design Security Limited, resulted in a SABRE Rating of ‘Excellent’.

Gareth Hulmes, Head of SABRE for The Security Institute, said: “We are delighted to see the King’s Cross estate receive SABRE In-Use certification. This achievement is testament to the commitment King’s Cross has to managing security risk and providing a welcoming environment for businesses and visitors alike. People rightly expect security to be a material factor in the management and operations of public spaces, as was evident in the recent Government response to the Protect Duty consultation. Independent third-party certification with BRE is a fitting way for King’s Cross to evidence its dedication to this important issue.”

Gilbert Yule, Estate and Customer Service Lead for King’s Cross, on behalf of King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership (KCCLP), said: “King’s Cross is one of the largest mixed-use schemes in London, welcoming a diverse community of residents, workers, students and visitors every day. To be the first destination to receive the SABRE In-use certificate, jointly operated by The Security Institute and BRE Group, is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the team’s focus on ensuring the safety and security of all our customers, residents and visitors. I would like to add my thanks to the whole King’s Cross team for the time and effort invested into this project.”

And Chris Jones, Head of Security at Kings Cross Estate, pictured right, said: “We are delighted to have achieved a SABRE rating of excellent at King’s Cross. The award recognises our commitment to creating a safe environment for all who live or visit the estate. The continued support and collaboration across the King’s Cross team has been critical to delivering this level of security operation for which we are extremely grateful. Given the impending introduction of ‘Protect Duty’, this award demonstrates our continuing commitment to all aspects of security at King’s Cross.”

The consultant Chris Aldous, Director, Design Security Ltd, pictured left, said: “It was a pleasure for the Design Security team to work with the estate team at King’s Cross to understand the intricacies of the destination. The diverse and complex nature of the estate and how the various user groups interact throughout the hours of operation needed to be carefully considered as part of the overall SABRE assessment.”

Rajeev Pradhan, Director of Operations at the guarding contractor Bidvest Noonan said: “We are really pleased to have played such a key role in delivering the security operation at Kings Cross estate which has now been recognised with this SABRE award of ‘Excellent’. We look forward to continuing this team approach, driving standards of excellence, delivering a safe and secure environment for all.”
