G4S at Aintree

by Mark Rowe

Up to 1,700 staff from G4S Events were working across all three days of the Crabbie’s Grand National Festival, at Aintree, which culminated in the Grand National steeplechase on Saturday.

Staff from the company’s Cash Solutions arm of the security business were transporting the takings from the punters at the Liverpool course. Some 80,000 race-goers packed Aintree Racecourse.

Mark Grant, Operations Director for G4S Events, was overseeing the security and stewarding operation at Aintree during the festival. He said beforehand: “We’ve been working for Jockey Club Racecourses for 24 years now, but every year is exciting, and it’s a thrill for us to be part of this fantastic event. Our team will have been looking after more than 150,000 people over the whole festival, doing everything from searching race-goers, stewarding, track protection and customer service. Our Cash Solutions colleagues are also here this year, providing their cash-in-transit services. They’re likely to be extremely busy!

The Grand National attracts everyone from royalty to celebrities. Mark Grant added: “We’re advising everyone to look at the weather forecast and come dressed appropriately, and to take note of the safety and security advice on the Grand National website and on the advice they will have been given with their tickets. If anyone has any problems on the day, our staff are on hand to help them, and although our guys won’t be able to rival the ladies in the fashion stakes, we’re highly visible around the course in our branded uniforms.”
