Control room relocates

by Mark Rowe

The technical furniture manufacturers Thinking Space Systems recently provided CCTV control room furniture for Chesterfield Borough Council. The north Derbyshire council’s control room was in an 18th century building and did not have the capacity for expansion, hence the move.

Thinking Space worked with the client to provide an ergonomic solution by focusing the furniture needs around the 5 metre Evolution media wall. Accommodating 10 screens for monitoring the 100-plus CCTV cameras covering the district, the two operator console was designed in a curved configuration to make best use of viewing angles. This also created more space within the room. As well as a single operator supervisor console, 24/7 chairs and monitor mounts were also provided.

Andy Bond at the council said: “Working with Jason Gregory from Thinking Space was a pleasure; he understood the project brief and engaged with the CCTV operators regarding their comfort and the usability of the desks. This ensured that the final desk arrangement, lighting configuration and monitor control was as required from day one. Going through a procurement process ensured we got the value for money and quality required, this was not an issue for Thinking Space, in what is a competitive market. Regarding fit out, Jason liaised with our CCTV installation team ensuring that final fit and positioning of the desk, monitor wall and ducting was right first time. Zero snags, well done and thank you.”
