The Leicester-based stewarding and event security contractor Showsec reports a contract with Leicester City Council. The agreement means that the crowd management company will provide their services at many events in the city. The company recently announced similar contracts with the local authorities in the two other East Midlands cities, Nottingham and Derby.

The Festivals and Events Team at Leicester City Council stage a wide range of culturally diverse events throughout the year, most notably the Diwali celebrations in October (pictured), the Riverside Festival in June and the Bonfire Night Celebration in November.

Joe Milner, Showsec’s East Midlands Area Manager, said: “This is an especially significant agreement for the Company because Leicester is our home city. It is important for us to have a close association with the city and its people because of the part they have both played in our success story over many years. We have contributed to the local economy and we have provided career opportunities for many local people to play key roles in our development, so we are delighted that we now the opportunity to work with the city on this basis in the foreseeable future. The council operates such a diverse range of events throughout the year, so we know that it is going to be an extremely busy, but exciting time ahead.”

He added: “This agreement was made possible because we were awarded a position on the ESPO national Framework 209 Event and Festival Equipment Services in the security sector. ESPO is one of the United Kingdom’s largest public sector professional buying organisations and therefore this put us in a strong position to expand our operation across the region which we have put so much emphasis upon in the early part of 2014.”
