Bumper event at ST15 Newcastle

by Mark Rowe

A bumper £2000 was raised for charity at ST15 Newcastle, the latest in the Professional Security magazine TWENTY series of conference events.

As ever, the ST15 event on Thursday, July 9 at the Gosforth park Marriott Hotel next door to Newcastle racecourse had an informal sit-down dinner for exhibitors and their guests the evening before. The by now traditional heads and tails game, and raffle, raised more than £1900 for the night’s charity, The Atlantic Council. The round total of £2000 was reached thanks to one winner of the raffle handing the prize of a bottle of whisky back for it to be raffled a second time.

The distributors COP Security had a good night; Gareth Rhodes won the heads and tails game, and James Bentley was the first prize winner in the raffle; he walked away with his choice of an iPad.

The Thursday conference, alongside an exhibition by 60 manufacturers and industry bodies, was chaired by consultant Mike White. It heard from the SIA chairman Elizabeth France; the Surveillance Camera Commissioner Tony Porter, making a return to the TWENTY series having last spoken at ST14 Heathrow in October; and Paul Grainge, the Teesider and security co-ordinator at PD Ports.

Pictured left to right at the very end of the event on Thursday afternoon are Francis Parker-Allotey, the ST15 attender from London who was the winner of the bottle of champagne in the business card prize draw; and Professional Security magazine MD Roy Cooper.

ST15 Newcastle was sponsored by distributor Y3K; the dinner by camera and lens manufacturer Canon Europe; and lanyards and goodie bags for conference visitors by distributor Anixter.

Next stop for ST15 is as last October the autumn event at Heathrow, the Park Inn over the road from the entrance to the airport to be exact. The conference-exhibition is on Wednesday October 28, and the meal on the Tuesday evening.
