Roy's Monthly Gossip

A busy month

by Mark Rowe

Seems it’s been a busy month for moving around; or rather will be of course as I am writing this before some of these events have happened, and you may well be reading them before likewise, what am I talking about? the gossip of course. Now where shall we start?

Let’s start by telling you that Gary Rowden has left Norbain (he was as you will know Vista product director) and has moved to Stanley Security. I understand he will be on the products side, in fact will be or is now the Commercial Director of their access control products.

Simon Shawley has left Genie Access; not quite, but does as of February 1 and moves to become the sales director for Wavestore, but I hear you say what’s happened to Glenn Fletcher? Glenn has moved to NVT to run the UK for them.

Damien Marsh (pictured speaking at ST17 Nottingham last February) has gone from Anixter and likewise David Small has gone from HIKVision; and Rob Scott has joined Avigilon. Come on, keep up? Bob Groom is leaving Videotech and joining … not sure I can say yet? But I will give you a hint “a leaf of clover”.

Anthony King is back! You may recall that his Bradford-based family firm Kings Security recently brought in some investors, a few years ago. He left and is now part of a company called Square One Systems which I am sure will do extremely well as Anthony is so well connected in the industry. Welcome back bud; I knew you wouldn’t be away for long.

Mike White has joined 2N as their new Access Control business development manager, whilst the company have promoted Matt (Ninja) Raban to a new position of UK distribution manager, I think that means that Mike guards the door and Matt hands out the mail! No seriously seems the company is doing very well hence Matt’s promotion and the appointment of Mike. Now I know there are a few Mike Whites in our industry but I am talking about the Mike who’s been in the industry for a few years, having previously worked for STiD, Risco, HID and ASSA Abloy where he started in 2002. He’s the one pictured with Matt Raban.

Talking of Abloy UK they have appointed three new people: Duncan Rigby as Technical Sales and Specification Manager, Geoff Bowers as Systems Integrator Channel Manager for the North, and James Harvey as CNI Market Development Manager – Transport. Is it Geoff or is it Gerald? what am I on about, seems that for some years we got Geoff’s name wrong on our database and was sending him out a magazine as Gerald, oops!

DVS have been adding more staff namely two External Area Sales Managers: Stephen Nicholson will be covering the South West. He has been working in the security industry for almost 20 years and has been the Technical Support Team Leader at DVS for three years. Stewart Timmins will be looking after customers in the East Midlands. And the firm has a new Internal Sales team member: Luke Graham who has jumped from being a Warehouse Operative at DVS, where he was in position for three years.

At Hoyles Electronic Developments, Jimmy Rimmer has joined as their UK and International Sales Manager. He comes with over 35 years’ experience in the electrical, electronic security, fire, life safety and access control industries.

Intergrated Security Manufacturing (ISM), and that is spelt right, the developer and manufacturer of IP-based door entry and intercoms, has appointed Roy Thomson as its new Business Development Manager.

So I think that’s about as much as you can take from me of those movers and shakers. Here is a question for you? Will I see you at the next Security TWENTY event in Nottingham? It’s a bit later this year. The exhibition and conference will be on February 21; we have over 80 exhibitors lined up and some great presentations in the conference, you can’t afford to not be there, how else are you going to keep yourself up to date with what’s new, plus of course that opportunity to network with your peers, customers etc etc. On the night before we will be holding as usual our charity dinner.

We have changed things slightly this year and have invited a special guest to join us but due to security issues I am afraid it will have to stay as a surprise. We still have room at that dinner, it’s going to be a special one so if you want to join us then just let me know, you could even buy a table at the event and use it as an opportunity to entertain your customers or staff, it will be a fun night and we will raising some money for Rennie Grove Hospice Care. This is a regional hospice (covering Bucks and Herts) that supported Alan Walker (Managing Director of CDVI who sadly passed away last November) and his family at their hour of need.
