Second patent for reversible key cylinder

by Mark Rowe

UNION, part of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the physical security and door opening product company, has been granted a second patent for its keyPRIME reversible key cylinder. That gives a patented lifetime to 2036 and means the firm says that keyPRIME offers one of the longest patent protected products in the market. Keys and cylinders can only be ordered, cut or assembled by authorised partners.

UNION says that keyPRIME is suited for commercial, education and healthcare uses. The product can be keyed for one or multiple doors, making it also the makers say suitable for residential or small business use, and allowing for cylinder upgrades or replacements.

The product has a solid 3mm thick key, crafted in nickel silver, and comes as a master key, keyed alike or keyed to differ, in euro, single, double, or key and turn cylinders.

The platform offers a range of technical features with performance that goes beyond the standard of BS EN 1303: 2015, the manufacturer adds. For single cylinders an adjustable cam is offered as standard.

Craig Birch, Product Category Manager at UNION, says: “Now protected until 2036, the UNION keyPRIME delivers the most assured patent protection available on the market, providing long life and peace of mind to users. Offering the same reversible key benefits and greater value than more costly dimple systems, its symmetrical faces and no sharp edges means the key works easily, no matter which way it is inserted.

“Coupled with our 100 years’ experience in master keying, UNION has a heritage that is second to none. We are therefore thrilled be granted this second patent for our keyPRIME cylinder system, as we continue to deliver great security and protection to our customers.”
