PoE switches

by Mark Rowe

KBC Networks, manufacturer of industrial transmission equipment for analogue, IP and high definition transmission systems has added to its industrial Ethernet switch range with a series of Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches.

With the PoE data ports on the switch supplying power to the attached networked device, the new additions to the KBC IP transmission range make new installations and system additions faster, easier and more flexible, it is claimed. The new units are designed for industrial, non-conditioned and outdoor applications with extended operating temperature ranges. Depending on the model selected, the switches are IEEE 802.3af or, the higher powered, IEEE 802.3at compliant, which is suitable for most PTZ cameras, according to the manufacturer. Some models have PoE++ ports.

These new switches are video optimised for high resolution 4K video, managing high traffic jumbo frames. In CCTV mode, these switches support 250m cable runs with PoE.

Luis Angulo, CCO of KBC Networks EMEA said: “Our new PoE switches will provide customers with the additional features and flexibility needed for added security and peace of mind, but at a price point that can even be used in commercial applications.”

The available switch types include a range of fixed RJ45, SFP and combo ports (10/100 and Gigabit) which are MDI/MDIX compliant for automatic configuration. For system reliability and maintenance, the switches feature dual redundant power inputs as well as power failure alarm outputs and ring topology. The units have operating temperature ranges of between minus 40 and plus 75 degrees C; no fans or forced-air cooling are required, the makers add. Visit www.kbcnetworks.com.
