Multi-bay network attached storage

by Mark Rowe

The storage product company WD, a Western Digital company, has announced that its My Cloud EX2 and My Cloud EX4 multi-bay network attached storage (NAS) products now integrate with Smartvue software. That allows remote video monitoring and management of IP cameras. Product information http://www.wdc.com/en/products/personalcloud/expert.

Jim Welsh, executive vice president, WD Content Solutions Business and worldwide sales, said: “With our expert series of My Cloud products we designed a great solution for creative professionals, pro-sumers and small businesses to save, share, back up, stream and manage their growing libraries of digital data. We recognise surveillance video as a growing component in that digital library for many of our customers and the Smartvue integration will make it simple to record, manage and access that critical surveillance video.”

By installing the Smartvue app within the apps feature of the My Cloud dashboard, and subscribing to Smartvue’s services, the My Cloud EX products convert into a video surveillance system able to support up to eight cameras from one web portal, the US company says. Available for iOS and Android mobile devices, the Smarvue app supports remote video monitoring and management of camera footage recorded on the My Cloud EX products, plus live feeds of the cameras. The Smartvue app also allows users to set automated alerts, motion detection and recording schedules. The products offer support for hundreds of IP cameras.

Martin Renkis, founder and CEO of Smartvue Corporation, said: “WD has done tremendous work in making their My Cloud products simple to set up and use, while still including powerful features that more advanced users are looking for. The Smartvue video surveillance platform matches that same formula, combining with WD to create powerful video surveillance systems simple enough for home users while still boasting the advanced features that more experienced users and small businesses will enjoy.”
