The control system for the broadcaster BBC’s weather studios is by Axis Communications, the network video product manufacturer, with specialist systems engineer and Axis partner Cybertronix Ltd. BBC Weather’s studios in London have relocated from Television Centre to Broadcasting House, its new home.
The installation centred on the relocation of the existing BBC Weather studios creating three new cutting edge enclosed and open-air studios, all built using IP technology and required the switch to be made from the old studios to the new, overnight. Stuart Box, director at Cybertronix said: “The use of the Axis technology has helped transform the whole studio away from legacy systems to the use of IP technology.
“The new studios can now be controlled from any remote location and, if there is a problem with a studio, it can be serviced remotely or the control can even be transferred to an entirely new equipment room at the push of a button – something that just wouldn’t be possible without IP technology. We have worked with Axis for over a decade and during that time they have always delivered for us. This project was no exception and we received the usual quick, efficient and helpful service that we have come to expect from Axis.”
AXIS Q7401 video encoders were used for a variety of uses including background alignment and remote fault finding. The encoders also ensured that the video streams could be sent over an IP network to be viewed or recorded from anywhere in the building. AXIS P8221 Network I/O Audio Modules were also used in the installation in order to mix video sources, control mute, voice processor and voice levels in the studios.
