by Mark Rowe

G4S Events, the UK event security arm of the multi-national company, is to support the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) at the G8 Summit, at Lough Erne in Northern Ireland.

During the event in June, G4S will have 450 employees doing a range of security work, including stewarding, monitoring of site perimeters and securing access to venues. The firm has protected international summits and events on behalf of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office over the years, including the 2005 G8 Summit in Gleneagles and the G20 Summit in London.

The G8 Summit will be one of more than 25 political, sporting and leisure events which G4S will be working at over this summer including the tennis Championships at Wimbledon, the Silverstone British Grand Prix, the Ashes Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, the T in the Park festival in Scotland and concerts across the UK for bands including Bon Jovi and the Stone Roses.

Eric Alexander, Managing Director of G4S Events, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and be given the opportunity to use our proven expertise to help the PSNI secure this extremely high profile event.”
