Partners for mobile video

by Mark Rowe

Hikvision, the Chinese video surveillance products manufacturer, with Observit AB, a Swedish provider of open mobile video management system, have announced strategic cooperation to integrate their products to support Hikvision’s 4 series Smart IP cameras and allow Observit’s embedded component to run on Hikvision cameras.

Cameras from Hikvision’s 4 series Smart IP camera range are the first in the integration. Based on Hikvision’s HEOP (Hikvision Embedded Open Platform), Observit’s Mobile Video Management System, Observit BOT, can be installed on Hikvision 4 series Smart IP cameras. The Observit BOT supports remote operation, without waiting for the vehicle to arrive at a depot or station. Recordings are uploaded from the bus during operation to a central video storage, for later analysis. The firms claim that the system is easy to integrate with on-board applications such as alcohol interlock, Panic button and Eco driving to achieve immediate real-time information if any critical events happen on the vehicles.

Lars Flodén, CEO of Observit, said: “The strategic cooperation between Hikvision and Observit allows Observit to expand its reach to a very significant share of the global mobile surveillance market, strengthening Observit’s position as the Industry-leading provider of open mobile video management system in public transportation. Hikvision users will benefit from the integrated solution which offers them the most comprehensive and reliable video management solutions on the market.

Peter Guan, General Manager for Western and Northern Europe at Hikvision, added: “Hikvision 4 series Smart IP cameras allow customers improved image processing capability. The Smart Codec function the cameras excel is particularly useful in mobile environment. As well, Observit BOT provides a reliable platform to manage the surveillance system anytime anywhere. Together, we believe the combined solution will definitely accelerate the security market in the public transportation sector.”

Nobina, the Nordic transport company with 4000 buses in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden has selected Observit BOT and cameras from Axis Communications’ for use on its buses in Oslo.
