Panoramic megapixel cameras

by Mark Rowe

Arecont Vision, the US maker of IP-based megapixel cameras, was last month presenting its new generation of all-in-one SurroundVideo G5 panoramic multi-sensor megapixel cameras at the ISC West show.

New models include the 5MP SurroundVideo G5 with STELLAR (Spatio Temporal Low Light Architecture) technology and remote focus P-iris lenses. Both standard and smaller form factor versions of 12MP and 20MP SurroundVideo G5 cameras have also been added, each with double the frame rate of previous models. This is the company’s fifth generation of multi-sensor panoramic camera systems. The SurroundVideo G5 series delivers 180 degree and 360 degree wide area coverage.

Brad Donaldson, Director of Product Management, Arecont Vision, said: “Panoramic multi-sensor megapixel cameras continue to gain traction as the go-to solution for wide area surveillance as a result of their unprecedented performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency. With the addition of remote focus and p-iris lenses and delivering double the frame rate over previous models, Arecont Vision continues to be the leader in multi-sensor surveillance technology.”

The new 5MP SurroundVideo G5 camera features STELLAR Low Light Technology for colour imaging in extreme low light. The P-iris lenses optimise iris position for better imaging, and remote focus simplifies set-up and adjustments. The standard form factor models come with an option for Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) at 12MP resolution to capture useable video in scenes with highly contrasted lighting. The standard form factor model offers P-iris lenses and remote focus, plus double the frame rate of previous models.

More resolution options are also available in the firm’s new small form factor SurroundVideo G5 Mini cameras. The 12MP models offer options for WDR, and both the 12MP and 20MP models double the frame rate of previous models.

Other features of the megapixel panoramic cameras include dual H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10) and MJPEG encoders, privacy masking, and extended motion detection with 1,024 zones per channel. 12MP and 20MP models offer pixel binning for increased sensitivity in low light applications. The G5 cameras also feature an IP66-rated environmental housing and a polycarbonate bubble that is IK-10 rated impact-resistant.
