Access Control

Aliro 2.0 previewed

by Mark Rowe

At IFSEC 2016 in London, the exhibitor Vanderbilt gave a preview of the successor to its Aliro access control product. Due for release late this year, Aliro 2.0 is said to be suitable for small to medium sized commercial applications, offering internet based software and intuitive mobile features.

Maintaining the look and feel of the original system, the most significant developments within Aliro 2.0 are the Mercury technology platform, providing control, monitoring and data manipulation with an open system architecture and the refactoring of various system features to support the development of Aliro towards larger systems with higher demands.

The software is described as scalable and future proof. The Mercury technology ensures customers can be certain of the investment made in the Aliro system through the open system architecture. Aliro 2.0 supports up to 512 doors, 10,000 users and 100,000 access cards and, as importantly, allows the control of one or two doors from a single access point controller – one door read in/read out or two doors read in/push to exit. This enables a number of deployment options that could save costs of up to 30 per cent per door, it is claimed. Similarly, with system costs proportionate to the number of doors to be protected, the architecture also improves overall cost transparency for users.

For Aliro 2.0 Vanderbilt has upgraded the user interface facilitating the use of common Internet browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

The Mercury technology deployed in Aliro 2.0 supports integration towards various third party devices. Aliro 2.0 now works with the Assa Abbloy Aperio lock, which enables wireless, mechanical locks to be incorporated within the overall access control. Access control rights can be assigned to both wired and wireless components at once.

Vanderbilt’s CEO, Joe Grillo, said: ‘By offering visitors an exclusive preview of Aliro 2.0, we expect significant interest in what I believe to be a truly next generation access control solution. This latest development is part of ongoing improvements to our portfolio in this area and further enhancements will be announced in due course.’ Visit Vanderbiltindustries.com.
